Prevention & professional cleaning

Lasting dental health begins long before the first treatment. Regular professional cleaning is the most effective way to keep teeth and gums healthy.

What professional cleaning achieves

Even with careful brushing at home, some places stay out of reach: the spaces between teeth, the gum line, the fissures of the molars. Deposits collect there, harden over time and become the starting point for decay and gum inflammation.

During professional cleaning we remove these deposits thoroughly and gently: hardened tartar with piezo technology, a particularly tooth-friendly form of ultrasonic cleaning, and soft deposits and discolouration with air polishing. The teeth are then polished so that new deposits adhere less easily, and fluoridated on request.

Your individual rhythm

How often prevention makes sense depends on your personal situation. For many adults, two appointments a year are a good guide. Anyone prone to gum problems, wearing implants or fixed restorations, smoking, or living with certain conditions benefits from shorter intervals.

We set the rhythm together with you and adjust it when your situation changes. This is not about a fixed scheme but about the interval that actually makes a difference in your case.

Advice that lasts beyond the appointment

Prevention is more than the cleaning itself. We look at how you brush at home and show you where the effort pays off: the right brush, the right technique for the spaces between teeth, and where useful, interdental brushes or a different toothpaste.

Dental health happens between appointments, not during the half hour with us. Our aim is that a few well-placed habits achieve more than a lot of effort in the wrong place.

Statutory health insurers usually do not cover professional cleaning, or only in part; many private tariffs and supplementary policies reimburse it fully or partly. We tell you the amount in advance so you know where you stand.

Frequently asked

What patients ask us about this

How often is professional cleaning advisable?

As a rule once or twice a year. In individual cases a different rhythm can make sense – we base this on your dental and gum findings.

Does my insurance cover professional cleaning?

For patients with statutory insurance, the cost is usually not covered. It is still worth asking your insurer – some reimburse part of the cost once a year.

With private insurance it is covered in most cases, depending on your tariff. If you are unsure, please clarify this beforehand.

How long does the appointment take?

The duration depends on the condition of your teeth and gums. On average the appointment takes 60 minutes.
