As much as necessary. As little as possible. Preserving your natural tooth substance is central to how we work.
06 — Tooth preservation
Preserving tooth substance
We aim to keep healthy substance and to limit any intervention to what is genuinely needed. With modern, high-quality composite materials we can restore smaller defects and also adjust the form and colour of your teeth – for a natural, harmonious result.
Aesthetic changes without sacrificing tooth substance
Thanks to modern adhesive technique and our experience in aesthetic dentistry, many corrections can be made directly on the tooth. Often little or no grinding is required.
Treatment usually takes a single appointment and, where the starting situation allows, offers a substance-preserving and more affordable alternative to all-ceramic restorations.
When a crown is the better route
Not every situation can be solved well with a direct composite restoration. We always examine whether a minimally invasive approach is possible and sensible in the long run.
For us, current dentistry means changing no more than necessary – while keeping aesthetics, function and the long-term health of your teeth equally in view.
Frequently asked
What patients ask us about this
How long does a composite filling last?
With good care, a high-quality composite filling can last many years. The lifespan depends on the size and position of the filling, the load on the tooth, oral hygiene and habits such as grinding.
Small to medium fillings are generally particularly durable. With very large defects, a different restoration may make more sense in the long run. Regular check-ups help to spot changes early.
Does my insurance cover tooth-coloured fillings?
In the front region, composite fillings are covered – in a matching tooth shade as standard. If a filling is to blend in as invisibly as possible, several colour, translucency and enamel layers often have to be built up individually. This elaborate aesthetic shade matching is not a statutory insurance benefit and involves additional cost.
In the posterior region, statutory insurers have covered self-adhesive plastic filling materials since 2025. If you opt for a higher-quality adhesively bonded composite filling with individual shaping, additional costs arise as well.
We inform you about any additional costs before treatment begins.
