Dental prosthetics

Missing or severely damaged teeth affect chewing, speech and appearance. High-quality restorations restore function and fit into your set of teeth without drawing attention.

04 — Restoration

From crown to denture

If a tooth is badly damaged but the root is healthy, a crown protects what remains. If a tooth is missing and the neighbouring teeth are stable, a bridge may be an option. Where several teeth are missing, removable solutions or a combination of fixed and removable restorations are possible.

Which restoration fits is not decided by a catalogue but by your findings: the condition of the neighbouring teeth, gums and bone, the chewing load, the cleaning effort and, not least, your own preferences. We set out the options with their advantages and drawbacks.

Material and appearance

For visible areas we mainly use all-ceramic materials. Ceramic is kind to the surrounding tissue, does not discolour and refracts light similarly to natural enamel – which is why it looks alive rather than flat.

We determine the shade together at the chair, in daylight and in comparison with your own teeth. For larger work in the front region we work closely with the dental technician; on request he comes to the practice for the shade selection.

The restoration is made in a master laboratory we have worked with for years. Appointments for impressions and fittings take longer than a check-up – our treatment rooms are air-conditioned throughout, so this stays comfortable even on hot days.

Cost and durability

Before treatment begins you receive a written treatment and cost plan. It states what your insurer covers and which share falls to you. We go through the plan together before you submit it to your insurer.

How long a restoration lasts depends less on the material than on care and regular check-ups. Crown margins and gums are where problems show first – which is why every restoration comes with an aftercare plan.

If something changes over time, for instance through receding gums, much can be adjusted without replacing the entire work. Please tell us early if something presses or feels different.

Frequently asked

What patients ask us about this

How long does a crown or bridge last?

A well-made and carefully fitted crown can last many years, often ten to fifteen. The actual durability depends on oral hygiene, the load on the tooth, the condition of the underlying tooth and on regular check-ups.

Care at the transition between crown and tooth matters particularly, since decay can develop under a crown as well. Heavy grinding or high chewing loads can also affect the lifespan.

How long does it take from impression to finished restoration?

As a rule about 14 days from the impression to fitting. If it needs to be quicker in your case, we can usually arrange this with our laboratories – please speak to us directly.
